Gerry Cardinale is the Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer of RedBird Capital Partners. Based in New York, Mr. Cardinale also serves as the firm’s Chief Investment Officer, overseeing all investment activity.
To date, Mr. Cardinale has led RedBird’s investments in TierPoint, a build-up of data centers which today is the largest privately held data center operator in the United States; On Location Experiences, a recapitalization in partnership with the National Football League (NFL) of its global ticketing, hospitality and events business; and Zenith Shipping, a platform to purchase and operate a portfolio of dry bulk vessels and product/crude tankers in partnership with a leading family-based operator. In addition to these build-ups, Mr. Cardinale also sits on the board of Aethon United, RedBird’s investment platform in the natural gas industry.
In 2012, Mr. Cardinale retired from Goldman Sachs after a 20-year career where he was a Partner of the firm and a senior leader of the Merchant Bank’s private equity investing business, which managed over $100 billion of private capital across equity, debt, real estate and infrastructure investment strategies. Over the course of his career, Mr. Cardinale invested across a range of industries and developed a particular track record and expertise in the Media, Entertainment and Telecommunications industries as well as in Sports and Sports Media.
Notable investments which Mr. Cardinale led at Goldman Sachs include Suddenlink Communications, which he helped build into the seventh largest cable television business in the United States which sold for $9 billion in 2015; the Yankees Entertainment & Sports (“YES”) Network, which today is the #1 Regional Sports Network in the country; and Legends Hospitality, which is a premium ticketing, concessions and merchandising services company in partnership with the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys. Mr. Cardinale continues to sit on the boards of the YES Network and Legends Hospitality, as well as the New York Yankees.
Mr. Cardinale received an Honors A.B. from Harvard University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and an M.Phil in Politics and Political Theory from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He sits on several non-profit boards including Mt Sinai Hospital in New York City, the American Association of Rhodes Scholars and Yo Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project.
